I had the pleasure of working on RB's new portfolio site whilst working at a design agency.
Raymond Blanc approached the agency for a complete re-design of his website based around English/French seasonal food. This is an integral part of what he does and how he approaches all aspects of his cuisine when creating recipes and cooking.
I was embedded in the team working on ideation, research, brainstorming and design right through to illustration, prototyping, animation and production with developers in a Wordpress environment. Read on to find out how I went through the process.
UI/UX & motion graphics
Raymond Blanc believes the food we eat should be seasonal and his recipes are full of ideas which endorse this.
Sketches
We created a large collection of insight ideas and from speaking to RB so we had clear direction of the things which were really important to him.
We captured interesting websites which were both competitors and wider afield to understand how we might turn on it's head what a chefs website should look and feel like.
Gathering a collection of imagery to help focus and understand image choices (Below)
The above animated examples give a sense of the way we envisaged the page to work on scrolling down the page. I liked the way the page loads in as the focal point comes into view.
These are some page layouts I created which incorporated the seasonal 'ground to plate' message which RB is so passionate about in his food.
Because the site would be maintained by RB's staff, it was important it could be edited easily. We had repeat elements, with content blocks which could be changed in the back-end with simple upload and drop-down menus.
A collection of slides we presented to the RB team.
This illustrates the way the site was split up into components.
An example of how the pages were broken up into mobile and desktop grids.
I illustrated the site throughout and we developed a style bespoke for the RB site (see below). The top left quarter of this image shows the process used to create the illustrations. I used Adobe Capture to take the colours from the interior of Le Manoir (RB's home residence) and used these colours within the illustrations.
I am experienced working on web, platform & in multi-disciplinary teams
